Some customers who used Zelle money transfer services with their bank and experienced fraud were not able to receive reimbursement for their losses, leading to numerous civil and class action lawsuits against the financial institutions that work with Zelle or against the company itself.
But Zelle fraud lawsuits aren’t the only problem the person-to-person payment transfer service is contending with – there was even a Senate investigation of Zelle fraud data provided by banks resulting in a report that fraud is growing on the platform.
The Senate report found that banks that own Zelle market tell customers that the platform is safe and secure, but cases of fraud and theft on the platform are actually increasing. It reported that in most cases, the banks did not repay the customers that were defrauded.
