Nineteen-year-old Adrienne Lee Shipp was sentenced to 9 years in prison after hitting and killing a little girl while driving drunk. In January, a jury of her peers found her guilty of involuntary manslaughter and assault.
According to prosecutors, last year Shipp drank a pint of vodka before driving through a Whiteriver neighborhood. Shipp drove her truck onto the sidewalk and struck two little girls who were coloring under a tree. Shipp then left the scene of the accident while neighbors tried to stop her. Eventually, her car stalled a few hundred yards away. The Arizona Republic reports that the two girls were aged 4 and 5; the 5-year-old was killed and the 4-year-old sustained severe injuries.
