The Phillips Law Group is investigating claims that Viagra (sildenafil) may lead to an increased risk of the melanoma type of skin cancer in men who have used the drug.
A study of the erectile dysfunction medication was recently published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, and suggested a link between Viagra use and melanoma. If you or a loved one developed melanoma after using Viagra, you deserve to be compensated for your suffering.
In June of 2014, the Journal of the American Medical Association reported the results of a long-term study which found a link between Viagra use and melanoma.
Researchers examined the data from a long-term study conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health, which tracked the data of nearly 26,000 men from 1986 through 2000. The researchers compared the mens instances of melanoma skin cancer as well as their reported Viagra use.
Even after researchers controlled for variable like a family history of skin cancer and the amount of UV light exposure, men who had taken Viagra were significantly more likely to develop melanomas than those who did not. Men who had never used Viagra developed melanoma at a rate of 4.3 out of every 1,000. In contrast, men who reported using the erectile dysfunction drug developed melanoma at a rate of 8.6 out of 1,000an 84% increase.
