More Information On The Cartiva Implant Failures

    What Is The Cartiva Implant?

The Cartiva implant is supposed to help patients with osteoarthritis in the big toe and to relieve friction caused by worn-down cartilage in the toe. Medical professionals put the synthetic Cartiva implant in the great toe joint, and it works like regular cartilage. It is meant to let the patient move the joint freely, versus toe fusion surgery, which can limit mobility.

But some patients who got the Cartiva implant have instead ended up with more toe issues and injuries after the procedure. In fact, the University Foot and Ankle Institute reported that a shocking number of about 50 percent of the implants they had done actually failed.

Have a question about a potential case?

How Do I Know My Cartiva Implant Failed?

You may become suspicious that your Cartiva implant failed if you experienced a very short period of time without pain, or if the pain you experienced before the implant never really seemed to go away. Cartiva implant failures can cause motion issues or severe pain and discomfort. Some people with a failed Cartiva implant may even require revision surgery.
