Off-Road Vehicle Strikes and Kills Bicyclist

bicycle pedal under blue lightYUMA, AZ – A 75-year-old bicyclist died Sunday night after he collided with an off-road vehicle near I-8 in Yuma.

According to KYMA, Ramon Alvarez-Cerillos, of Yuma, was riding his bicycle south in the northbound lanes of Fortuna Road near Mesa Del Sol when he collided with a red Polaris RZR.

Investigators say one vehicle had been able to swerve out of the way and avoid hitting the victim, but the driver of the Polaris was unable to do so in time.

Alvarez-Carillos was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

The portion of Fortuna Road between 24th Street and 26th Street was shut down for some time after the crash.
