CHANDLER, AZ - Two people died and one Arizona DPS trooper was hospitalized as the result of a high-speed collision on the Santan Freeway last Saturday afternoon.
According to AZ Family, the accident occurred as the trooper was responding to a single-vehicle collision along the freeway. The trooper had pulled to the side of the road and was sitting in his cruiser when it was struck from behind by a white passenger vehicle.
The two occupants in the second vehicle were killed as a result of the incident. They have been identified as 27-year-old Matthew Haughey and 26-year-old Krystin Phillips. The unidentified trooper was taken to an area hospital to be treated for injuries that are not expected to be life-threatening.
