3 Deaths in Multi-Vehicle Truck Crash on Interstate 17

Three people were killed and two people remain in critical condition after a multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 17 near Dunlap Avenue Thursday afternoon, Aug. 13, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

A semi-truckwas traveling southboundwhen the driver stopped to inspect a mechanical issue around6:00 p.m., according toArizona Department of Public Safety spokesperson Jesse Galvez.

The five people who were in the truck were standing between the truck and the trailer on the highway when a vehicle traveling in the same lane struck the trailer, pushing it into them, according to Galvez.

One person suffered critical injuries and was transported to the hospital, and another was not injured. The motorist who crashedinto the trailersustained serious injuries and was also transported to the hospital. The accident briefly closed I-17 in both directions.
