SCOTTSDALE, AZ - An off-duty officer with the Gilbert Police Department was seriously injured following a hit-and-run crash in Scottsdale early Sunday morning.
According to CBS 5, the accident occurred at about 1:30 a.m., when Sgt. Tom Egerton was rear-ended while riding his motorcycle in the southbound lanes of Loop 101 at East Via de Ventura.
The driver responsible for the crash fled the scene. That individual was located a short time later and taken into custody after showing signs of impairment.
Egerton was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries sustained in the wreck. He was in critical but stable condition as of Sunday evening.
