Phoenix Crash Friday Night Leaves One Pedestrian Dead

PHOENIX, AZ – Investigators with the Phoenix Police Department are looking into the cause of a collision that resulted in the death of a pedestrian Friday night.

According to ABC 15 Arizona, Vernon Crawford, 61, was hit while attempting to cross near the intersection of 44th and Washington Streets shortly before 10:00 p.m. Police say Crawford was not within the designated crosswalk when he stepped into the street and was struck by a Kia Forte in the westbound lanes of Washington.

The Kia’s 32-year-old driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. No charges have been filed against him at this time.

Police do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
