Fatal Motorcycle Accidents Increasing in Arizona

Posted on behalf of Phillips Law Group on May 24, 2016 in Auto Accidents

motorcycle fatalities increasing in AZSo far in 2016, motorcycle accident deaths are on the rise in Arizona, climbing four percent over last year. Nearly 17 percent of all fatal traffic accidents this year have involved motorcycles.

The Arizona Motorcycle Safety & Awareness Foundation is focusing their efforts on improving safety throughout the year. The foundation encourages all drivers to improve their awareness on the roads, all the time, in efforts to lower the number of motorcycle crashes on Arizona roadways.

Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month

May is National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. Law enforcement agencies and safety groups throughout the country are encouraging all motorists to look twice to improve their awareness of motorcycles on the roads, and are also reminding motorcyclists of important safety tips which could save their lives.

  • While helmet laws are not in place everywhere, wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle is critical to preventing fatal head injuries – the top cause of death among motorcyclists. Helmets approved by the Department of Transportation meet the minimum protective standards. Full face helmets that fit properly and don't obstruct vision offer increased protection.
  • Always provide instruction to your passengers. Make sure they are wearing appropriate riding gear and that they know not to distract you. If you're inexperienced with a passenger, practice maneuvers in a safe area before hitting the open road.
  • Whether you are an experienced rider or not, all motorcyclists can benefit from participating in a motorcycle safety class. Learn safety skills or brush up on your knowledge to improve your safety while riding.
  • Know the coming weather conditions before riding. If you must ride when it is raining, start your trip after the rain has started; when rain first hits, roads are more slippery due to oils and residue kicked up by the rain.

If your loved one was killed in a motorcycle accident caused by another motorist, you may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, funeral expenses, and your pain and suffering. The experienced motorcycle crash lawyers at Phillips Law Group can help determine if you are entitled to file an accident claim.
