DUI May Be Cause of Rear-end Crash That Killed One

MESA, AZ ”” A driver was killed Saturday evening after being rear-ended by another motorist suspected of driving while intoxicated, 12 News reports.

According to the Mesa Police Department, the driver who caused the accident was speeding west on Main Street towards Gilbert Road at more than 90 mph when he crashed into the back of a second vehicle, slamming it into a concrete barrier.

The driver of the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The first vehicle skidded through the intersection for more than 100 feet before it finally came to a stop. Bystanders pulled the driver from the vehicle and detained him until police arrived.

Officers took the motorist into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. As of Sunday morning, the names of those involved had not been released.
