Phoenix DUI Crash Leaves Motorist With Critical Injuries

PHOENIX, AZ – A Phoenix man may never regain use of his legs after an accident involving a drunk driver left him severely injured Saturday.

According to Fox 10 Phoenix, the multi-vehicle crash occurred along State Route 51 near Shea Boulevard.

Officials with the Arizona Department of Public Safety believe a pickup truck driven by 34-year-old Jason Kengott rear-ended a vehicle driven by Edgardo Soto, 50, at a high rate of speed.

The collision forced Soto’s vehicle up onto an embankment and into a tree. Both Soto and his sister survived the crash. However, his spine and ribs were broken in multiple places.

Witnesses recounted seeing Kengott driving in the wrong direction on the freeway moments before the crash. He failed a field sobriety test and had a blood alcohol level of .136.

Kengott was arrested for DUI and two counts of aggravated assault following the accident.
