Multi-Vehicle Crash in Chandler Injures Five People

police pursue driver of RVCHANDLER, AZ – Five people were sent to the hospital following a police chase and subsequent crash in Chandler on Saturday night.

According to the Arizona Republic, the incident began when a homeowner contacted police about a possible trespassing incident near Chicago Street and California Street. That person told police that there was an RV parked in front of their house and that they thought people inside were engaged in illicit drug activity.

Responding officers approached the RV. They say its driver, 32-year-old Arnold Serrano, ignored their orders, and instead went back into the vehicle. They called for backup, which arrived as Serrano turned on the RV, crashed through a gate, and sped towards an officer. Another officer at the scene began to fire at the vehicle.

Serrano headed west on Frye Road at a high rate of speed, eventually causing a collision that involved five other vehicles near the intersection with Dobson Road.

Two people were hospitalized with significant injuries. Three others were transported in unknown condition.

Serrano was also taken to a hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. He is likely facing several criminal charges.
