MESA, AZ – A portion of the light rail in Mesa was shut down after a fatal collision last night.
According to Fox 10 Phoenix, the incident occurred sometime before midnight when a motorist ran up the curb on Main Street near Alma School Road. The vehicle then slammed into a utility pole.
The driver was rushed to the hospital, where he died. A passenger in the car was also hospitalized in unknown condition. Police say the victims were arguing prior to the crash.
Buses were called in to service light rail commuters while crews worked to clear the tracks.
