PHOENIX, AZ - A suspected drunk driver caused two different accidents on Friday morning, one of which proved fatal, police say.
AZ Family reports that 25-year-old Martin Perez was traveling northbound on 16th Street at about 8:30 a.m. when his silver truck crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a black sedan near I-17. The sedan’s driver was not injured.
Perez drove away from the accident and struck a silver passenger vehicle at 16th St. and Buckeye Road a short time later. The driver of the silver vehicle, a 53-year-old man, died at the scene of the accident. Perez was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say that during transport, authorities noticed that Perez smelled of alcohol and seemed to be impaired.
Perez has since been released from the hospital and booked into Maricopa County Jail on two counts of endangerment and one count of manslaughter.
