Chemical Canister Explosion at ASU Injures Three

TEMPE, AZ – Three workers were injured in a lab accident at Arizona State University’s BioDesign building in Tempe on Tuesday, after an overpressurized chemical canister exploded.

According to ABC 15, the three members of a cleaning crew were taken to the hospital to be treated for multiple lacerations.

An investigation is underway into what may have caused the release. Officials believe it could have been the result of a defect in the container that housed the chemical.

Two members of the cleaning crew sustained potentially serious injuries while the third suffered only minor injuries. No updates regarding their conditions have been made available at this time.
