GLENDALE, AZ – A man was transported to the hospital after crashing his vehicle into a canal in Glendale Tuesday afternoon, CBS 5 reports.

Firefighters arrived at 79th Avenue and Missouri Avenue shortly after 12 p.m. Video from the scene shows a Honda sedan with severe damage beginning to fill with water as the driver is trapped inside.

Firefighters used hand tools to free the unidentified man from the vehicle and pull him to safety. He was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Investigators are working to establish an official cause of the crash at this time. They believe both speed and impairment may have been factors.
