Camp Lejeune Lawsuit Filings Begin Following PACT Act Passage

The first lawsuits under the PACT Act were filed Thursday, and at least one veteran has already filed suit against the United States government.

President Joe Biden signed the PACT Act on Wednesday, August 10. The legislation includes the Camp Lejeune Justice Act alongside other legal issues involving toxic exposures related to military service, and one former service member has already taken action following the passage of the historic bill.

The veteran claims he developed cancer after serving at Camp Lejeune in the 1980s, according to local North Carolina outlet WRAL

Investigators discovered that the water at the military base was contaminated with dangerous, highly toxic substances between 1953 to 1987. People who lived and worked at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina during that time period may have come into contact with hazardous contaminants in the water in base wells there and, as a result, could have developed serious health concerns.

The harmful chemicals marines and their families were exposed to at Camp Lejeune may have caused birth defects, cardiac problems, Parkinson’s disease, miscarriage, scleroderma, and forms of cancer including Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, multiple myeloma, leukemia, bladder, lung, or breast cancer, as well as any number of other devastating health problems.

Military service members and their loved ones who were exposed to harmful chemicals in the water at Camp Lejeune can now pursue legal action, as at least one veteran already has, and Phillips Law Group is on the frontlines of pursuing justice for others like him when it comes to helping anyone with an eligible Camp Lejeune lawsuit.

At Phillips, we are outraged that our military veterans and families stationed at Camp Lejeune were so carelessly exposed to toxic contaminants that may have had heartbreaking effects on their health – even developing issues that turned fatal for an untold number of brave service members.

If you or a loved one were stationed at Camp Lejeune between 1953 and 1987, please don’t wait to contact Phillips Law Group to learn about all your legal options.
