ADOT: Rear-End Crashes Most Common Collision Type

According to the vehicle crash data from the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) of the 111,090 multi-vehicle crashes that happened in the state in 2019, almost half (47,936) were rear-end crashes. Rear-end crashes are the most common type of vehicle collision in Arizona by far.

Left-turn crashes are the second most common. In 2019, there were 18,903 left-turn crashes.

Head-on collisions are one of the least common types of crashes, accounting for 1.8 percent of all crashes. ADOT says the best way to avoid rear-ending another vehicle is to not speed and to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you. Not driving while distracted, wearing a seat belt, and using turn signals will also help keep you safe while driving, according to ADOT.
