Suspected Drunk Driver Crashes into Cop Car

PHOENIX, AZ – A suspected drunk driver careened into a police vehicle parked where authorities were investigating a fatal pedestrian accident early Sunday morning.

According to KTAR, an unidentified pedestrian was fatally struck in the area of 75th Avenue and Indian School Road at about 10 p.m. Saturday night.

Police say the pedestrian had been walking outside of the designated crosswalk when he was hit by a driver who may have been involved in street racing. The driver was taken into custody and is facing manslaughter charges.

Investigators were continuing to work the scene when a 21-year-old driver slammed into a police SUV with two officers inside at about 5 a.m. Sunday. Both officers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was taken into custody after showing signs of impairment at the scene.

Details regarding the identities of any of the individuals involved are being withheld pending further investigation.
