- Types of Bad Weather in Arizona
As a driver, one must learn to deal with many different types of situations including handling bad weather. There are four seasons throughout the year but there are many more different types of weather conditions a driver can expect to deal with.
Unfortunately weather conditions are not something that can be easily predicted and a motorist can go from driving in sunny weather to rainy conditions in no time.
Each year thousands of car accidents are caused by poor weather conditions and drivers who may not know how handle driving in these types of conditions. According to the Arizona Department of Transportation (AZDOT) more than 103,000 car crashes were reported throughout the state in 2011 of which approximately 11% occurred during bad weather conditions.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a motor vehicle crash that occurred during bad weather conditions, the victim may be entitled to compensation for property damage, medical bills, lost wages, and more.

Arizona Weather
Arizona weather can vary by location and time of year, oftentimes the weather can dramatically change if a driver is in the dessert or mountainous area of the state.
Some common types bad weather conditions Arizona drivers may experience include:
- Cloudy Skies
- Rain
- Sleet
- Hail
- Lightning
- Snow
- High Winds
- Smoke/Smog
- Blowing Sand/Soil/Dirt
- Sun Glare
Although tornadoes are not a common in Arizona, they can happen and could be extremely hazardous for anyone on the road. In 2010 there was an outbreak of tornadoes and 8 tornadoes were reported throughout the state in one day. Drivers should always listen for warnings of bad weather conditions.
Cloudy weather and rain was reported during more than 10,400 crashes in 2011 resulting in nearly 5,000 injured persons.
According to AZDOT nearly 200 pedestrian crashes occurred during bad weather conditions and additionally more than 150 accidents involving cyclists happened during similar weather conditions.
Bad Weather Driving Risks
It is important for all drivers to understand why driving in bad weather conditions can be hazardous. There are two main reasons why driving in such weather conditions can be dangerous:
Visibility
All types of bad weather can cause poor visibility conditions for motorists. Sun glare, fog, and rain can cause visibility problems and if a driver fails to follow up on proper car maintenance the visibility problems can be worse. Worn out windshield wipers can be problematic as can a dirty and/or dusty windshield during smog or fog.
Losing Control of the Vehicle
During rainy and cold weather conditions, a car can easily lose traction on the road due to hydroplaning or ice that has formed on the road. A person may also lose control of a vehicle during high winds particularly when a vehicle is travelling at high speeds.
In particular drivers need to be cautious when driving in bad weather around other motorists. Although you may be cruising carefully other drivers may not be as experienced driving in such conditions or could have faulty bad weather safety equipment.

I was recently served court documents that I was being sued from an accident that happened years ago. For someone who has never been through something like this and not familiar with the court lingo or where to even begin, it was very frustrating and stressful. I reached out to a family member who knew Tracy Laskos and the great reputation of Phillips Law Group and within the hours of the initial call for help, I had a direct number to Lead Attorney Nassar. Nassar heard my case and almost instantly put me at ease by explaining the process and how easy it was to handle. Nassar spoke to me like he was a friend, not like I was a client. I am so grateful to Tracy, Nasar and of course my cousin Stephanie for helping out and giving me the direction that I needed to get through this situation. I plan on referring my friends, family and patients that are in need of a personal injury Attorney to Phillips Law Group. Thank you!!
