PHOENIX, AZ – A woman has been killed and a man hospitalized after their vehicle slammed into a pole in north Phoenix early Saturday morning.
According to ABC 15, an unidentified driver lost control of his vehicle shortly before 3 a.m. near the intersection of 24th Street and Cactus Road. The car skidded into oncoming lanes of traffic before colliding with a utility pole.
The passenger, 36-year-old Jessica Mertens, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver also sustained injuries, however there are no details as to whether they are life-threatening.
Investigators believe speed was a factor in the deadly crash.
