Three children were crossing a busy thoroughfare Wednesday morning when a car hit a 6-year-old. The boy was running across Van Buren Street nearby 20th Avenue and was struck when barley reaching the curb. a bystander called the officers who were in the area at around 9 a.m.
The child was found by police officers lying in the roadway and a Nissan parked on the curb lane. The boy was found with bumps and bruises and legs twisted. The child was reported to have non-life threatening injures and is undergoing surgery to mend a broken thigh bone. The child's brain was scanned which showed no evident damage.
Although the driver will not be cited, he was understandably distressed about the accident. He didn't see the children come across and tried to avoid hitting them.
