Miniature Horse Attacked in Palominas
A local Arizona woman was doing a good deed in her efforts to nurse her adopted horse back to health. Spirit, the woman’s miniature stallion, was finally returning to a good physical shape. The owner left the horse peacefully resting in its arena on Tuesday night, August 14, 2012.
The Cochise County Sherriff’s Office was phoned after the owner of the 300-pound horse dead in its corral on Wednesday morning. The officers determined that the attack must have occurred around or after 6:30 pm on Tuesday night.
The Sherriff deputies, along with animal control officials, found the horse in the 10,000 block of South Hutchinson Road in Palominas just prior to 8 am. The miniature horse was found with lacerations and apparent bite marks around the body. Officials say the horse could not withstand the attack and died before morning.
A few days later, Cochise County officers stated that the owner of the two attacking dogs has been identified. The owner surrendered both dogs to the animal control officers. Animal control stated that dog bite attacks such as this are rather common in this area.
