Man Killed in Own Bed in Freak Phoenix Car Accident

Most people understand that when they venture out into traffic, they are encountering danger and they must put some level of trust into motorists nearby. However, few if any people would ever consider themselves to be in danger from moving vehicles while they are asleep in their own beds. Tragically, one man paid the ultimate price for the recklessness of others when he was killed by a vehicle that crashed through his home while he was asleep in his bedroom in a freakish Phoenix car accident. Police have made arrests in the aftermath of this incident and the investigation continues.

According to authorities, the latest fatal Phoenix car accident occurred at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday morning at 7300 W. Roma Avenue. Eduardo Luis Arechiga, 21, and his 16-year-old brother were visiting a friend of theirs who lived next door to Juan Carlos Mendez. It was alleged that they were drinking, and the driver got into his SUV and was performing amateur stunt maneuvers in a nearby intersection. The driver lost control of his vehicle, which hit a Toyota parked in the driveway of Mr. Mendez's home. The Toyota went through the wall of the bedroom along with the SUV and ran over the victim, who died at the scene. The driver was arrested after fleeing the scene on foot on suspicion of manslaughter, leaving the scene of an injury accident, eight counts of endangerment, and criminal damage.
