Two People Killed in Scottsdale Pedestrian Accident
Tuesday, 10 May 2011 08:07

Taking a walk on a sidewalk on a Sunday morning is something that millions of people across the United States do on a regular basis.  When people take part in this activity, few if any consider the fact that every vehicle that passes by must follow relevant traffic laws in order to avoid a serious problem.  Tragically, something went terribly wrong on Sunday when two people who were walking on a sidewalk were hit and killed in a Scottsdale pedestrian accident that is still being investigated by the police.

According to the authorities, this fatal Scottsdale pedestrian accident occurred on Sunday at approximately 10 a.m. when a 51-year-old male and his 50-year-old wife, both residents of Alaska and in town for a church retreat, were walking in a southbound direction on Scottsdale Road just north of Jackrabbit Road.  Just then the driver of a GMC SUV lost control of the vehicle, ran up onto the sidewalk and crashed into the couple.  They were both killed at the scene, and police at this point have ruled out drugs or alcohol as factors in the crash.

Head-On Arizona Car Accident Seriously Injures Both Drivers
Monday, 09 May 2011 14:40

There are certain mistakes made by motorists that other drivers are able to avoid for any number of reasons.  However, one mistake that's almost impossible to avoid occurs when a motorist crosses the center line on a two-lane road and moves directly into the path of an oncoming vehicle.  If this occurs when the two vehicles are in close proximity, there is almost nothing that can be done.  While it's too early to know exactly what occurred this morning, what is known is that a head-on Arizona car accident has left both drivers involved seriously injured.

According to the authorities, this Arizona car accident occurred at 5:15 this morning on the northbound Loop 303 Estrella Freeway near Grand Avenue in Surprise.  An 18-year-old motorist was heading one way on the road when his vehicle crossed to the other side of the road and collided violently with the 80-year-old driver of a vehicle headed in the other direction.  Police initially suspect that the 18-year-old driver fell asleep.  The 18-year-old driver was described as being in critical condition, and the other driver's condition was not specifically updated.  However, police have stated that he was seriously injured.

Arizona Car Accident Statistics

First and foremost, we'd like to offer our sincere hope that the people who were injured in this head-on Arizona car accident are able to survive the harm they have suffered and recover from their injuries.  In addition, this crash will now become part of the overall statistics regarding Arizona car accidents.  Every year, more than 140,000 such crashes occur, leading to more than 65,000 injuries and to more than 1,000 fatalities.

Arizona Car Accident Lawyers

If the available facts are accurate and the 18-year-old driver did cross over the center line, then it's possible that the 80-year-old man who was injured could file an Arizona personal injury lawsuit against that driver.  If such a lawsuit is filed and is successful, the man could be awarded damages that compensate him for his medical costs and his pain and suffering.

Johnson & Johnson and Other Companies to Discontinue Differing Doses of Children's Medication
Thursday, 05 May 2011 13:46

Children and infants are two different types of people, although even the most caring and detail-oriented parents can get the two groups confused from time to time when it comes to consumer products that are available.  One of the most dangerous examples of this confusion involves over-the-counter medication that's sold in retail outlets.  Many companies offer medications that are made for children and others that are made for infants, but the difference between them can be unclear to those who purchase and use them.  As a result of this growing problem, several companies that include Johnson & Johnson will discontinue the manufacture and sale of medications with differing doses for children and infants.

This decision will affect several very familiar name brands that include Tylenol.  Many of these products are sold in drops form, which makes it easier to administer them to children and infants.  However, these differing medications have differing strengths when it comes to their active ingredients, and when a parent gives an infant a medication that was made for older and larger children, it can result in an overdose and in immediate medical danger for that infant.  Rather than risk additional problems, Johnson & Johnson and other companies will simply move to manufacture medication that's consistent in its strength.

In 2009, there were more than a dozen hospitalizations of infants who had accidentally overdosed on medication that was formulated for older children, and the most common ingredient that caused this problem is known as acetaminophen.  This substance is known to help with such common ailments as coughs and fevers, but if too much of it is ingested and an overdose results, a small child or an infant can face dire consequences.  To date, no reports of deaths have been reported as a result of this label confusion.

Arizona Defective Drugs Lawyers

Parents of a child who has suffered as a result of an accidental overdose likely have had to endure much in the way of extreme stress, worry and have incurred a potentially large amount of medical expenses in an effort to bring their child back to health.  Those who have found themselves in this situation may have hesitated to learn more about their legal rights because they feel it was their mistakes that led to these situations.  However, that may not necessarily be the case in all scenarios.

If your child has suffered because of an accidental overdose due to label confusion, you need to seek the help of Arizona defective drugs lawyers who can help you obtain the understanding of your legal rights that you need.  Contact the Phillips Law Group today to schedule a free initial consultation.

State Projects Slow Progress on Arizona Job Growth
Wednesday, 04 May 2011 12:59

When a terrible economic recession hits any area, one of the fundamental variables that will help to determine its duration is the employment rate.  As many already understand all too well, Phoenix and the rest of Arizona have suffered through this current recession for many reasons, but one of them is the tremendous number of jobs that have been lost.  Recently, many experts have stated that the unemployment rate in the state and in Phoenix could be bottoming out, and the latest job growth projections put out by the state reflect that to an extent.  However, according to these projections, it's going to be a long road to recovery.

According to the state, approximately 17,300 jobs will be regained during the calendar year 2011, and another 34,600 jobs will be regained during 2012.  While the addition of move than 50,000 jobs over the next 19 months would be a welcome relief to tens of thousands of people who are currently suffering through a long period of unemployment, those numbers would not even come close to regaining the number of jobs that have been lost during this recession.

In 2008, Arizona lost more than 57,000 jobs.  In 2009, more than 190,000 jobs were lost.  2010 saw more than 51,000 jobs lost by residents of the state.  In short, nearly 300,000 jobs have been lost since the recession began, which means that even if these projections are met, it would only net a recovery of less than 20 percent of the jobs lost.  More than 250,000 people who have lost jobs in the past three years would still be looking for work unless these projections prove to be pessimistic in nature.

Grape Tomato Recall Announced Due to Salmonella Concerns
Tuesday, 03 May 2011 13:02

People eat tomatoes regularly, and they are also used in many dishes as an ingredient.  Therefore, when something goes wrong with a batch of tomatoes, the potential risks could affect an enormous number of people.  Fortunately, no reports of illness have yet been filed, but Taylor Farms Pacific has announced an immediate grape tomato recall that could affect people all over the western United States.  The recall was announced because of concerns regarding the potential presence of salmonella.

According to reports, this grape tomato recall was announced and affects almost 30 brand-packaged salads that are sold in retail outlets that include Albertsons, Raley's, Sam's Club, Savemart, Signature Cafe, and Wal-Mart.  These products carry an expiration date ranging from April 27 and May 9.  These products were distributed in 13 different states that include Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

About Salmonella

Salmonella is a form of bacteria that, if ingested by a person, can lead to an outbreak of a medical condition known as salmonellosis.  People who are affected by this bacteria often experience initial symptoms that make them think of the flu.  These symptoms include diarrhea, fever and severe abdominal cramps.  Some cases involving exposure to salmonella are so severe that people need to be hospitalized to treat it, and there are others for whom exposure to this bacteria can be fatal.

When someone is harmed by a defective food product, it could be difficult to understand which food could have caused the illness at issue.  Even if the food is identified, those who have been sickened then face the prospect of taking on a large corporation if they choose to attempt to protect their legal rights.  These defective products lawsuits also involve high degrees of technical information and burdens of proof that often must be met with the help of the testimony of expert witnesses.

If you or someone you love has been harmed, you need to focus on your recovery and allow experienced professionals to handle the process of making sure your legal rights are protected.  Contact the Arizona defective products lawyers at the Phillips Law Group today to schedule a free initial consultation.

Underwater Mortgage Problem in Phoenix Still Crippling to Many
Saturday, 30 April 2011 08:18

When a massive economic recession hits, there are usually a few variables that can be blamed for its cause as well as a few that can be tracked to measure any real recovery that's made.  When it comes to the Phoenix economy, the mortgage and real estate markets can be tied to both of these situations.  Most people know that Phoenix and Arizona as a whole were among the hardest-hit areas in the country in terms of the real estate and mortgage markets, and after showing some brief signs of turning around, it appears that any momentum that has been gained by homeowners on a collective level has been lost.

According to recently published statistics, more than 200,000 homeowners in Phoenix are currently 50 percent or more in negative equity.  This means that there is no available credit on these homes and the homes are also basically unable to be sold for a huge loss because the current homeowners will not be able to pay off the difference between the revenue generated with the sale of the home and the amount owed on the mortgage note to the lender.  Therefore, these people are stuck, and this is also affecting their ability to find more gainful employment.

Other statistics reveal that Arizona's employment numbers remain in a dreadful state.  While the unemployment rate has dropped slightly in recent months, it remains at approximately 9.5 percent, well above the national average, which has recently declined to 8.8 percent.  More than 300,000 people in Arizona remain unemployed, and the state as a whole has added fewer than 2,000 jobs in the past year.  The stagnation that occurs overall results from homeowners who cannot sell their negative equity homes to move to markets with better job prospects.

Phoenix Bankruptcy Lawyers

In short, until these problems are corrected one way or another, it looks as though the Arizona economy will continue to suffer.  Many people mired in this situation feel as though there is no way out and no solution to be obtained.  Fortunately, there are solutions available to just about every financial situation.  However, the all-important first step must be taken, and that step involves having an experienced professional take a close look at someone's overall financial picture.

If you are tired of worrying about your finances and you're ready to work towards putting this stress in the past, you need to seek the help of Phoenix bankruptcy lawyers who have helped countless people obtain a fresh financial start.  Contact the Phillips Law Group today to schedule a free initial consultation.

Arizona Bankruptcy Filings Take Downturn in March
Wednesday, 27 April 2011 15:00

For what seems like many years, the people of Arizona and the rest of the United States have been waiting for the economy to finally hit rock bottom.  The reason is that once it does, the only direction in which it can move is up.  One of the most direct ways to measure the financial health of residents who live in this type of economy is to track the number of bankruptcy filings that are filed.  While it's way too early to say that the economy is on its way back, the statistics regarding Arizona bankruptcy filings for March of 2011 have been released, and the results are somewhat encouraging.

Specifically, the statistics show that there were 3,878 Arizona bankruptcy cases filed in March, which is down from 4,135 in March of 2010.  In the Phoenix metro area, bankruptcy filings dropped from 3,063 in March of 2010 to 2,813 last month.  This is still a large jump from the February filings, which stood at just over 1,800, but March has historically seen a much higher number of filings in March than in February in any given year.  Finally, March's bankruptcy filings were the second consecutive month that the number of filings dropped from the same month in the previous year for two months in a row since the official beginning of the current recession.

Clearly, this is seen by many people as good news and by some others as an indication that the tide is turning.  However, for many others the worst is not yet in the past.  With the jobs market continuing to struggle and the real estate market continuing to be mired in a terrible downturn of its own, there still could be trouble ahead for many people.  In addition, for many others the damage has already been done from this recession even though they may not have yet taken steps to put their struggles behind them.

Arizona Bankruptcy Lawyers

Fortunately, there is a solution for almost any financial situation.  However, it all starts with having an experienced professional take a close look at someone's overall financial picture so that a course towards recovery can be mapped and pursued.  This is often the most stressful step that someone can take when facing these difficulties, but it should be known that this step is not generally as stressful as jumping in fear every time the phone rings or every time a walk is made to the mailbox.

If you find yourself mired in financial difficulty and you're not sure there's a way out, you need to seek the help of Arizona bankruptcy lawyers who have helped countless people regain control of their financial lives.  Contact the Phillips Law Group today to schedule a free initial consultation.

Man Killed in Tucson Motorcycle Accident
Monday, 25 April 2011 12:36

There are many traffic laws in Arizona that must be remembered by motorists at any given time when they are behind the wheel.  When any of these traffic laws are not obeyed, people can be injured or worse, and even those mistakes that seem slight in nature can be deadly.  Tragically, it's been alleged that one motorist failed to adhere to right-of-way norms recently, and this omission led to a Tucson motorcycle accident that took the life of a man who was hit in an intersection.  Police are continuing to investigate the situation.

According to the authorities, this fatal Tucson motorcycle accident occurred at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Houghton Road and Valencia Road.  An unidentified motorcyclist was approaching the intersection at that time when an unidentified woman who was driving a sedan was approaching the same location.  The traffic light at the intersection turned yellow, and the motorcyclist attempted to proceed.  At that point, the driver of the sedan turned in front of the motorcycle, and a collision ensued.  The collision caused the sedan to overturn, and even though the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, he did not survive the crash.

Arizona Motorcycle Accident Statistics

First, we'd like to offer our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the motorcyclist who was killed.  Losing a life in such a random fashion is truly tragic, and we hope that those who were close to him are able to come together and work through their grief.  In addition, this fatal Tucson motorcycle accident will now become part of the overall statistics regarding Arizona motorcycle accidents.  Every year, approximately 3,000 such crashes occur, leading to almost 2,500 injuries and to more than 120 fatalities.
