Assigned to provide scientific support to the DPS breath-testing program. This support includes:
- Repair Intoxilyzers, Stimulators and ancillary equipment.
- Train Operators, Quality Assurance Specialists, and Instructors for the Intoxilyzer, Includes 111 classes for some 60+ agencies in Arizona. Duties include preparation of DHS approval of lesson plans. Instruction includes pharmacology and pharmacokinetics of ethanol with special emphasis on the effects including ethanol's effects on driving and field sobriety testing.
- Provide expert testimony in the area of forensic breath and blood alcohol determinations. Includes testifying 350 times in the justice and superior courts of Arizona. Duties have included responding to out-of-state subpoenas.
- Provide laboratory services including simulator solution, silica gel analysis and blood alcohol analysis.
- Provide other assistance as requested including disseminating technical and legal information.
