Medication and drugs are now available to help treat conditions that even a few years ago seemed to have no cure. While the advancement of medical science and the research and development teams at pharmaceutical companies have accomplished some amazing things in recent years, the rush to market in order to generate revenues and profits has led to several dangerous drugs being released onto the marketplace. In addition, the FDA had been showing a tendency to be relatively lax in terms of its enforcement of issues surrounding defective drugs. Apparently, that is all changing. FDA Defective Drugs Recall StatisticsAs stated above, the FDA is apparently ramping up its efforts to remove dangerous and defective drugs from the market in the form of recalls. The statistics relating to recent years paint a clear picture of this phenomenon. In 2008, a total of 426 drugs and medications were recalled from the market for varying reasons. That number exploded to a total of 1,742 drug recalls in 2009. The number continues to be high so far in 2010, with nearly 300 drug recalls initiated during the first half of the year alone. Defective Drugs Lead to Side Effects and WorseThe reason that drugs are recalled is because there is enough evidence in existence to warrant labeling these drugs as dangerous. This evidence can come in the form of medical trials, studies that are done by any number of entities or a growing number of reports of defective drug side effects by consumers, patients or the doctors that have been prescribing this medication. Regardless of where this evidence is generated, the risk is severe when a drug is recalled for anyone who has taken it. If you or someone you love has been harmed as a result of taking a drug or medication, you need to seek the help of experienced defective drugs lawyers who have been holding the manufacturers of these products accountable for many years.
