The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will add warnings to the labels of statins, that the drugs may increase blood sugar levels and could cause memory loss. Statins are a class of drugs used to lower cholesterol levels. Some popular brand name statins are Lipitor, Crestor and Zocor. HealthDay News reports that Lipitor is the world's all time best selling prescription medication with sales over $130 billion.

The FDA added the new safety alerts after several studies showed that some patients that used statins had an increased risk of higher blood sugar levels and being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Labels for statins will now include warnings about cognitive effects, after patients have reported memory loss and confusion while using the medication.

Patients that are experiencing adverse side effects from cholesterol medications should contact their healthcare provider immediately.

If you or a loved one has been harmed after taking a medication, you may be entitled to compensation for your medical bills and other damages.
