California’s Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) randomly tested 25 brands of nail polish that are used in California nail salons. The DTSC was checking to see if the products contained the “toxic trio” of chemicals: toluene, dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and formaldehyde. The toxic trio has been linked to several health conditions including asthma, birth defects and cancer. According to Time Magazine, several of the polishes tested contained one or more of the toxic chemicals, even though some of the products claimed to be toxic-free.

The DTSC believes that exposure to these chemicals could cause a health hazard to customers and nail salon workers. Currently, there are 120,000 nail salon workers in California. It is not illegal to have these chemicals in consumer products. However, California law requires manufacturers to disclose all chemicals in consumer products. The nail polish companies could face legal action for not properly disclosing the chemicals in the products.

If you or a loved one has become sick from using a toxic product, you may be entitled to compensation. Contact the product liability lawyers at Phillips Law Group to discuss you legal options. On Thursday, Odwalla Inc. voluntarily recalled the Odwalla Chocolate Protein Monster beverage because customers with peanut allergies have experienced severe allergic reactions after consuming the product. The company is recalling the 12-ounce and 32-ounces bottles of the beverage, that have an "enjoy date" of May 23, 2012. The drink was sold at stores nationwide.

People who have allergies or a severe sensitivity to peanuts or tree nuts could have a serious or life-threatening reaction if they consume the drink.

According to USA Today, Odwalla and the Food and Drug Administration are investigating the cause of the allergic reactions because the beverage does not contain peanut or tree nut ingredients.

If you or a loved one has become ill after consuming a protein drink, you may be entitled to compensation. Contact the product liability attorneys at Phillips Law Group to discuss your legal options. To receive a free case review, fill out the online contact form on this page.

Veronica Olguin is suing Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center after a nurse severed her baby’s finger. In October 2011, Veronica Olguin took her then 3-month-old daughter Selena to the hospital for a fever that wouldn’t break. The baby stayed in the hospital for two days. When Selena was released on the third day, a nurse had to remove the tape attached to her IV. While cutting the tape, the nurse cut off Selena’s pinky causing blood to spray all over her and her mother. Selena was airlifted to another hospital, but doctors were unable to reattach her finger.

WTVT reports that the nurse involved in the incident is still employed at the hospital.

Veronica claims that she and Selena are still traumatized from the event.
